Measuring Spiritual Formation

We’ve found a lot of different ways to measure spiritual formation over the years.

church attendance
clean language
dressing the part
paying for indulgences
memorizing Scripture
serving in the church

There is obviously nothing inherently wrong with any of these things in and of themselves. A matter of fact some of them may be foundational for spiritual formation, but not the way in which we should measure it. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of believing one can somehow measure their spiritual maturity by checking off how many of the “do’s” have been performed and how many of the “don’ts” have been avoided. However, real spiritual formation isn’t evaluated by how well we perform a list of tasks on a check-off list. Jesus said…

John 13:35 35 “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Matthew 22: 36″Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

In other words Jesus said, spiritual maturity is measured in the context of relationships. Are you interested in how you’re doing at having Christ formed in your life? Then take at look at how you’re loving God and loving people.

Fishing Lessons

I once took a fishing trip to Alaska with three guys from our church who are about as different as three guys can be.

Lonnie has great hair, which he was always messing with, even when we were getting ready to go fishing at 4:30 A.M. Then there is Dwight, who doesn't say a lot. He's very unassuming. Then there is Dennis, who is Mr. Outgoing, Mr. Activity. He never stops.

We were fishing on the Kenai River near Soldotna, where the king salmon run. Dennis was the eternal optimist. He would say, "You know what, guys? I just know we are going to catch a fish right now. This is the spot! I just feel it."

Not only did we not catch fish in those spots, but I don't think Dennis even got a single bite. The next morning at about 7:00, our moment came. Our diligence was rewarded. Dwight got a bite. He reeled that baby in-a 45-pound king salmon. It was really something. The rest of us went home empty-handed.

After doing all that fishing, I started thinking about what Jesus said to two fishermen: "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19 NKJV). There certainly are a lot of parallels between fishing for fish and fishing for men.

The expression, "fishing for men," is an important one for us to understand. Another way to translate it would be, "catching men alive" (women, too, of course). We find this unique phrase only two times in the Bible, first in Matthew 4:19 and then in 2 Timothy 2:26, where it describes those who have been ensnared by Satan. Thus, Scripture provides a striking contrast: either we will catch men and women alive or the devil will.

With that in mind, I want to point out a few qualities that make for a good fisherman that also apply to fishers of men.

A good fisherman needs to be patient. When we were fishing in Alaska, I was told that it could take up to 100 hours to catch one king salmon. You cast out your line. You reel it in. You cast it out. You reel it in. It takes time and lots of it. On some days, you will catch ten fish. On other days, you won't get a single bite.

Sharing our faith can be that way too. Sometimes people respond, while at other times, people don't respond at all. So when we go fishing for men and women, we need to learn to wait and to persevere.

A good fisherman must have good instincts. Some people can just tell that a certain spot is the place to catch fish. They just have that fisherman's instinct. The same is true of sharing our faith. We must be sensitive to the timing and leading of the Holy Spirit.

Opportunities often arise at the spur of the moment. You may have other things you want to do. But a good fisherman will always have his pole and tackle box ready to go. We, too, should always be ready, always looking for an opportunity to be used by the Lord.

A good fisherman must have skill. A good fisherman knows his tools. He knows what to use at the appropriate time. He uses certain kinds of bait for certain kinds of fish. He knows how to cast out his line.

In the same way, fishers of men have the Word of God and the leading of the Spirit for their tools. They learn how to use these tools more effectively with experience. They learn by taking chances and trying again and again.

Good fishermen must know how to work together. When that fish is hooked, you need your buddy standing by with a net.

Have you ever noticed that when Jesus sent His disciples out, He sent them out in twos? That is an effective way to share your faith. As one person shares, the other person can pray. We need to work together and pray for each other.

God wants to use you to be a fisher of men and women. If you will make the effort, if you will load up your tackle box and your pole and go out looking for opportunities, God will use you to not only work alongside other fishers of men, but also to have the privilege of leading someone to Christ.

That is one of the greatest joys you ever will experience-far greater than catching a king salmon.

Champions- Focus

Seriously…can you believe the Olympic rampage that is Michael Phelps? The 23 year old swimming sensation from Maryland rocked Beijing and inspired a discouraged nation.

Oh - and did you know he eats 12,000 calories a day?

To put his accomplishments in perspective, check out these facts:

Michael Phelps - If Michael Phelps were a country (Phelpsland - maybe?), he'd be tied for third overall in gold medals won.
In the total medal count, Phelps would be tied for 12th overall with the Netherlands.
India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Mexico and Bangladesh (combined population = 2.1 billion) have earned a total of four Olympic medals in Beijing. Phelps (population = 1) has EIGHT.
Michael Phelps has a perfect build for swimming success, but so do thousands of others.

The thing that I believe separates him from all other competitors is the most critical piece of success: Focus.

You know who else had focus? An Olympian from the past who you probably never heard of - but you should know about her story:

Picture a small girl hobbling across the yard with leg braces attached to her crooked leg, her left foot twisted inward. Neighborhood kids laughed and pointed.

This girl was Wilma Rudolph

Wilma was born prematurely, weighing only 4½ pounds at birth. She was sick most of her childhood, suffering from double pneumonia, scarlet fever, and polio. After losing the use of her left leg at six, she was fitted with metal leg braces.

But Wilma wasn’t one to let her disability hold her back.

Wilma was one of 22 children from her father’s two marriages. She got her brothers and sisters to serve as lookouts while she removed her braces, forcing herself to learn to walk without them.

Wilma’s disability affected her family. Her brothers and sisters took turns massaging her crippled leg every day. For years Wilma underwent weekly therapy, requiring her mother to drive 90 miles roundtrip to a Nashville hospital. She was determined not to allow her disability to get in the way of her vision.

By the time Wilma reached her 11th birthday, 5 years of work - she had shed those braces and was playing basketball with her brothers in the yard.

A few years later, Wilma made the high school basketball team, and before long- Wilma became an all-state player, setting a Tennessee state record of 49 points in one game.

When basketball season ended, she decided to try out for the track team. That decision turned out to be one of the most significant of Wilma’s life. It started when Wilma beat her girlfriend in a race. Then she beat every girl in her high school. Soon, she beat every girl in the state of Tennessee.

Wilma was only 14 years old, but she’d come a long way since her leg braces.

Two years later she was invited to try out for the Olympics. At 16, Wilma qualified and ran in the 1956 games in Melbourne, Australia. She won a bronze medal - her team placed third in the 400-meter relay.

The victory was bittersweet. Yes, she’d made the Olympics and won a medal, but in her own eyes Wilma had only won the bronze. She wanted the gold. The prize wasn’t the Olympics - the prize was the gold medal - so she decided to try again in four years. Wilma knew that if she wanted to win the gold, she’d have to dedicate an enormous amount of time, commitment, and discipline. Wilma started daily training runs at 6 a.m., 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. She’d often sneak down the dormitory fire escape from 8 to 10 p.m. to get in some running on the track before bed. For more than three years - a total of more than 1,200 days - Wilma maintained this punishing schedule.

Finally 1960 Olympics in Rome arrived, and Wilma became the first American woman to win three gold medals in one Olympics. She won the 100-meter and 200-meter races and anchored the U.S. team to victory in the 4x100 - meter relay, breaking records along the way.

Michael Phelps and Wilma Rudolph had one thing in common…focus. You see, I tell you this story not only because it’s amazing - but also because it reminds me of us.

Why? Well, we all have disabilities - ‘braces’ - not on our legs, but on our hearts and lives. They hold us back from experiencing life the way it’s supposed to be experienced.

You know what I mean - right? Habits – addictions - struggling home life - fear of failure – disappointments - shattered dreams - pressure and pride - anything that makes us feel trapped or limited.

But like Michael Phelps and Wilma Rudolph, we want to succeed. We want the best out of life.

Success for her was to take her focus off her braces and limitations, and keep her eyes fixed on the gold medal at the Olympics. Bronze wasn’t good enough - it had to be gold.

Success for us is taking our eyes off ourselves, our problems, and our world and focusing - not on a gold medal or any other thing - but on a person.

That person is Jesus Christ. Focusing on a career or a title or a salary or a school are not bad things - unless they are your only thing. That’s when they become a bronze medal. But the gold is Christ because when you focus on Him and put His honor in first place, everything else falls into place.

Here’s the way the Bible puts it:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

What’s your focus? Do you want to succeed in a way that lasts for eternity? Yes? Then take a cue from Michael and Wilma - and set your eyes on the relationship that is pure gold - Jesus Christ.

Head: When we fix our eyes on Jesus and focus our priorities on His honor, we will succeed in this life and in the life to come.

Heart: A story like Wilma Rudolph’s or Michael Phelps is incredibly inspiring. When you think of their sacrifice and dedication, think of what Jesus Christ did to purchase your salvation and to offer you the best life possible.

Hands: To focus your life is to start each day asking Jesus to help you keep Him in first place and care more about His will than your own. Are you willing to do that each day?

Prophesy over your life!

In the beginning God SAID, Let there be light, and there WAS light. Everything that God SAID, was created from absolutely nothing. With the exception of man. He took from the earth that had been created by the word of His mouth, and fashioned and formed His most spectacular and favored of all creatures. He then breathed His very breath of life into Adam and he became a living soul. In order to create Eve, he put Adam to sleep, took a rib, and sculpted a breathtaking masterpiece. Adam needed to asleep awhile, so Father God could spend some quality time with His precious new daughter. He then presented them to one another to walk side by side. After everything was finished that God had fashioned, He took a step back, observed His creation, and “saw that it was good”.

What does this have to do with prophesying over your life? When the Holy Spirit of God lives inside of you, you have His very breath in your lungs. The bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. We all know how words have edified, encouraged, and cheered us on in our journey, as well as words that have discouraged, crushed, and defeated us.

When you step back and observe your life, your family, your health, your….whatever….can you “see that it is good?” Words are powerful. The tongue is compared to a small rudder on a huge ship in the book of James. That is encouraging if you are given to “see the glass 1/2 full”. What needs to be turned around in your life?? The Lord says, “Open wide your mouth and I will fill it”. In Psalm 32:7 we read “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” When you open your mouth and let Him fill it, the songs that deliver you from trouble will be from your own mouth!

Murmuring, complaining and negativity are the weeds that you plant in your own garden with seed from your heart and lips. Begin to speak life over your circumstances; over your health, over your finances; over your family, over our nation! Stop looking at what you can see, and begin to see as God sees. All things are possible for those who believe. The things you believe will be made manifest by the words that you speak. Prophesy LIFE over your life, and the lives of the ones you have influence over! Be a life giver with the fruit of your lips.

May God bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you and give you peace!!

Is this a true statement? I think it has to be. People have a craving…a longing…a lust to have something they can look to for meaning. We search for something greater than ourselves to give us purpose

People have a craving…a longing…a lust to have something they can look to for meaning. We search for something greater than ourselves to give us purpose. We are wired to find this meaning through authentic worship of God, yet too often we try to fulfill this craving with something other than true worship for God.

I would argue that this is because God has hardwired us to search for Him. Yet too often our wires get crossed and we look for someone or something else to fill that lust.

I think that today we see this most clearly in the way that people ravenously consume endless information about celebrities. They buy magazine after magazine and faithfully watch a multitude of entertainment programs on TV. (Don’t even get me started on reality TV!)

The same example could be made of sports as well. We sacrifice time with our family to play a quick eighteen holes or to catch the game of the day. We can turn on dozens of channels to find twenty-four hour coverage of Ocho-Cinco’s latest touchdown celebration or Kobe’s weekly tantrum. We call ourselves “die-hard” fans and get emotionally disturbed after our favorite team loses.

Fine tuning our physical appearance is another way we fill this lust for worship. Hours are spent at the gym, and an inordinate amount of money is spent on the right clothes or the right procedures to help us look the right way, all in an effort to provide ourselves with meaning.

This list can go on and on. I haven't even mentioned relationships, money, material possessions, drugs, alcohol, food, work…

Perhaps the most destructive way we try to satisfy this striving is by inundating ourselves with religion. I’m talking about the institutionalized religion that gets in the way of a real and honest relationship with God. This is destructive because we think that we’re doing the right thing by filling our time with church activities, but in all of those activities we seldom demonstrate true worship. We end up fooling ourselves and others into thinking we are “really spiritual” because it’s “God’s work”.

As youth workers we have a major impact on how our students fill their “incessantly and painfully” desire “to find someone or something to worship.” Perhaps the greatest influence comes from the way we model worship for them. By demonstrating the utter fruitlessness of filling out lust for worship with anything other than authentic worship of God, we teach our students more about what worship truly is than any number of messages we give. Now is a good time to reflect on the picture of worship you are presenting to the students in your ministry. Are you demonstrating authentic worship of God or worship of pop culture?

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote at the end of a long quote about worship: “…what we are worshipping we are becoming.” What are you becoming? Are you becoming the best golfer in your town, or the community fashion expert? Not that you can’t enjoy these things, but if you are becoming anything less than Christ-like, perhaps you are filling your lust for worship with the wrong things. Worship is not about the songs we sing, it's about the life we lead. If you aren't leading a life that is striving to worship God, then perhaps it's time to re-evaluate.

The Worship God Seeks

Many of us have different styles of worship. There are those who raise their hands, wave their hands, dance in the isles, clap, beat their chests, fold their hands to pray, sit in silence, etc.... There are others who make a spectacle out of worship and there are those who are so reverent, they won't let any excitement seep out of the sides of their mouths

How many of us would take our trash cans and empty them on the church altar on Sunday? None of us, right!! I mean if we were asked that question, we would laugh and maybe even get insulted that someone would even suggest the thought. Then why do we take our spiritual trashcans and our hollow words and empty those on God's alter every Sunday and Wednesday?

In our lives, many of us worship through volunteering our time for free while others give generously and anonymously through many organizations. Some of us worship by doing random acts of kindness to others while others of us let our actions and examples lead the way in our worship. However you choose to worship God, there are 2 things that must happen, either through music on a Sunday/Wednesday Service or through the actions we perform in our daily lives. Let's look at what these are;

John 4:23-24 says this, "yet a time is coming and has now come when the TRUE worshipers will worship the Father in SPIRIT and TRUTH, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit and His worshipers must worship in SPIRIT and in TRUTH."

OK, so what does all of this mean? Let’s break it down. In "Spirit", how do you worship this way? This means, when we sing and lift our hands or if we are directed to do something in our daily lives, like give money to the Tsunami relief fund, we do so with one goal in mind, TO PLEASE GOD!!! It is not something we go around "screaming" to other people about. It is not for a show. It is not for others to look at us and be proud of what we did. If we do get that attention for what we have done, then that attention should have happened upon us by accident. In Spirit, means nothing else other than pleasing God. Not what is going on around us like doodling notes back and forth on a church bulletin, watching Grandma Moses fall in and out of sleep in the row next to you, not being distracted by what happened to you or to some friends over the weekend? It is a single-minded reaction to who God is in your life. You get swept away by God's mercy and love in your life and are taken to a higher plain in expression. If our minds are on anything else, like how bad the music is or wondering if anyone is watching us, we have missed the first of these because we can't be worshiping in spirit and have our minds in the natural at the same time. It is impossible. God wants all of our attention, not just half of it.

“In Truth,” what does that mean to worship in truth? It means that you believe in Christ. Well DUH!!!! Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way the TRUTH and the Life." John uses the word truth to describe Jesus 25 times in this book, as to be making a huge point. Too many of us go about worship for ourselves, our needs, our desire to sing songs we know, etc. We miss the boat that we are worshiping the truth of Jesus in our lives. Did you know that by the way we worship, proves what we believe God to be in our lives. It doesn't matter what you say with your lips about Jesus. If your actions don't back up your words, it is obvious you don't believe it or worse, even care!!!! When we enter into worship, we are proclaiming the joy of Jesus in our lives. His saving grace, his unconditional love, his support and strength in our lives, his justice and mighty correction, His raising from the dead to take our sins on, etc.....

Can you honestly say that these things are on your mind when you enter the time of worship? Are you worshiping God from spirit or from a physical nature? Are you focused on the truth of Jesus or on where you are going to eat afterwards? Are you single minded in your intentions to sing to God a sweet and pleasing song or are you just making sure you sound good in your harmonies?

It states right here that God seeks worshipers who worship from spirit and truth. So, anything less than that is phony and fake! OUCH!!!! He desires us to move into a realm where worship is not about us and all about Him!!!!!!! If this is what God seeks and worship is the act of "pleasing God", how many times have we "pleased God" over the last month? How many of us have really offered up to God the pleasing aroma He desires from our lips and hearts? How many of us have offered up garbage and empty words?

It's time to offer up what God seeks and not what we decide to give!!! If you lack that connection with God, it may be because of the trash that we offer up in worship. Take an inventory of what you bring to God during worship. Is it saturated in truth and directed by the spirit or is it a bunch of garbage?

Emotional purity

Growing up in church, I've heard about purtiy...a lot. About every year or so we go through at least one sex series and talk about "how far is too far" and how to have a "pure" relationship. All these things are very important, and extremely relevant to people's lives. However, I strongly feel that we overlook a HUGE part of purity that I feel is just as important as physical purity...and that is emotional purity. I see it all the time...two people start dating...they've grown up in church...they've had purity engrained into their minds...they know how far they're supposed to go. They wait and wait and wait to kiss...again...all good things. But...instead of making out...they spend their time talking for hours and sharing all about their hurts and struggles, family problems, past relationships...they become best friends...learn to trust each other, they express their love for each other, spend all their time together, they know each other inside and out...they get close with each others family, and soon learn to depend on each other as a support and refuge for lifes struggles...and then...it ends.

Now, they not only have to deal with the loss of a boyfriend...but also the loss of a best friend...a family, a support, counselor, etc. They may not have given themselves away physically...but emotionally...they've given everything. They are left broken and confused..."I thought it would last forever". This is because they never knew what emotional purity was all about.

I believe that when you get married you should give yourself physically for the first time...I also believe God desires us to save our emotional body for our spouse as well. So, we need to do what we can to keep our emotional well-being in tact so as not to become an emotional wreck for our husbands/ wives.

So how do you stay emotional pure? Physical purity is somewhat easy to preach (not easy to do)...but emotional purity is more ambiguous. Here are some things I think can help.

1. Don't say I love you. If you're in high school there's a 98% chance that you don't actually love the person you are with...and a 96% chance that you don't know what love is. For more information on this...read Kelsey's Blog or watch the Nooma video called flame.

2. Keep your friends. Don't hang out with your friends much less. Self-explanatory.

3. Don't make your boyfriend/girlfriend your best friend. There is no reason for him/her to know your secrets... tell your friends/small group about the struggles in your life... And it's impossible to be "accountability partners" with your significant other...so don't pretend to try.

4. Don't let yourself, or your friends fantasize about the future. DO NOT talk about marriage until you are ready to be engaged. If you are in high school marriage shouldn't even be in your vocabulary...unless you are talking about your parents. Don't let your friends tell you how cute your babies will be or pick out your bridesmaids dresses...just don't. All this does is put extra pressure on the relationship and bring expectations into it that can't be fulfilled. You will be let down.

5. Be Independent... Don't make plans based on a relationship...that, I'm sorry, won't last...don't pick your college, career, ministry, or senior prom date based on the relationship you're in now. Do what is right for YOU.

6. Remember that you were created for the purpose of glorifying God...not a person. You were put on earth for God's pleasure...don't be a boyfriend pleaser.

Let's face it, boys are physical, and girls are emotional...we know this. So if girls need to help out our brother's physical purity by being modest and wearing one-piece bathing suits at camp...then boys need to help girls maintain their emotional purity. This means...don't bring up things like marriage and love and all that stuff unless you're ready to marry us...which you're not. And don't joke about liking us when it's not true.

Ok, I'm sorry this is so long...I have a lot to say on this subject. Thanks for reading...let me know what you think too.

Alice Cooper

Rock star Alice Cooper shocked the world in the 1970s with an alcohol-fueled stage show that explored taboos ranging from murder to necrophilia. Years later he shocked the rock world by quietly embracing Christianity.

He’s getting a lot of visibility from his syndicated radio show, “Nights With Alice Cooper,” which is heard 5 nights a week on more than 80 stations around the country. Cooper told a guest, “It’s great, I get to play the anything I want to play.” Interestingly, his musical tastes are far-ranging, from Motley Crue to the Beatles.

He also interviews retro rock stars like Ozzy Osbourne, Joe Perry from AeroSmith, and Brian Johnson from AC/DC.

Besides his radio program, Cooper maintains an active tour schedule. Little known to most people is that he owns AliceCoopersTown in Phoenix, Arizona, his hometown. It is a restaurant that pays homage to baseball, a sport he is passionate about.

He also loves golf, and his Solid Rock Foundation holds an annual golf tournament to aid at-risk youth in the Phoenix area.

While his on-stage antics and the radio show do not settle well with some Christians, Cooper has a vibrant faith. Though he rarely spoke openly about his faith, he did open up some time ago with Lonn Friend, editor of the on-line rock magazine KNAC.COM, Cooper spoke at length about his drinking days, faith in God, and views on the shock-rockers who are following in his footsteps.

Cooper was introduced to alcohol when he began his music career, and drank heavily for the next 15 years. Lonn quoted Cooper as saying, "I was a totally functional alcoholic, probably the most functional alcoholic ever. I never missed a show. I never stumbled. I never slurred a word. I mean I was the Dean Martin of rock n' roll," he told KNAC.COM. Cooper said divine intervention is what broke his drinking habit in the mid-1980s. "I honestly think I was simply and completely healed," he said. "I guess you can call it a miracle. It's the only way I can explain it. It was absolutely eliminated from my life."

Cooper has often been called the model for today's shock-rockers, including Marilyn Manson. While he doesn't criticize Manson for his on-stage theatrics, Cooper takes issue with Manson's anti-Christian stance.

"He's very vocal about it," Cooper told KNAC.COM. "I believe [the Manson album] AntiChrist Superstar was pointed right directly at me. I didn't volley the first shots in this whole thing. His whole anti-Christian thing, and I'm like 'Hey, I'm Christian, and I'm not going to denounce what I believe.' I can be a rock 'n' roll star, a Christian and Alice Cooper."

Cooper continued, "I think Marilyn had a really bad Christian experience when he was younger. My guess is he got involved with some less-than-Christian-Christians and that really, forgive the expression, nailed him. You know, he's one of the greatest button pushers I've ever met. And I know that game because I invented that game...Manson clicked because he found a whole new set of buttons to push, he even pushed my buttons, which is pretty impressive since I was pushing buttons before he was born."

Cooper's embrace of Christianity was more a return to faith than a coming to faith. "I was pretty much convinced all my life that there was just one God and there was Jesus Christ and there was the Devil," he told KNAC.com.

"You couldn't believe in God without believing in the Devil. I always tell bands that the most dangerous thing you can do is to believe in the concept of the Devil or the concept of God, because you're not giving them full credit. When you believe in God, you've got to believe in the all-powerful God. He's not just God, He's the all-powerful God and He has total control over everyone's life. The Devil, on the other hand, is a real character that's trying his hardest to tear your life apart. If you believe that this is just mythology, you're a prime target because you know that's exactly what Satan wants: To be a myth. But he's not a myth, of this I'm totally convinced. More than anything in the world, I'm convinced of that."

Cooper said, "We have to make a choice. And everybody, at some point in their lives, has to make that choice. When people say, 'How do you believe this? Why do you believe this?' I just say nothing else speaks to my heart. This doesn't speak to my intellect, it doesn't speak to my logic - it speaks right to my heart and right to my soul, deeper than anything I've ever thought of. And I totally believe it. That being said, I'm not a very good Christian. I mean, none of us are ever 'good' Christians. That's not the point. When you're a Christian, it doesn't mean you're gonna be good, it means you've got a harder road to pull."

Though some have questioned combining his faith in God with his rock-and-roll background, Cooper doesn't see a conflict. "I'm the first one to rock as loud as I can, but when it comes to what I believe, I'm the first one to defend it too," he said. "It has also gotten me in trouble with the staunch Christians who believe that in order to be a Christian you have to be on your knees 24 hours a day in a closet somewhere. Hey, maybe some people can live like that, but I don't think that's the way God expected us to live. When Christ came back, He hung out with the whores, the drunks and miscreants because they were people that needed Him. Christ never spent His time with the Pharisees."

But while Cooper may still speak to some of his old themes, he has a new message today.

"I used to celebrate moral decay, the decadence of it," he admitted in the KNAC.com interview. "I can look back on what I did then and what I'm doing now and they're two different things. But at the time I was the poster boy for moral decay, you know. So yeah, I've got a lot to be forgiven for...out of ignorance, I thought I was doing the right thing. I was totally in agreement that every guy should sleep with every girl and drink as much as they can. I don't believe that now. I don't believe in it, because I see how destructive it is."

Spiritual awakening is happening around the world, Cooper believes. "It's obvious humanity is craving for answers directly born of awareness," he said. "That's the healthiest thing I've seen in a long time because there is something better and everybody's gotta find it in their own way. People aren't feeling fulfilled by how many cars they own or the size of their stock portfolio. Even the addicts are saying, 'It doesn't matter how many drugs I take, I'm not fulfilled. This isn't satisfying.' There's a spiritual hunger going on. Everybody feels it. If you don't feel it now, you will. Trust me. You will."

Hi, have you ever thought of how 2008 had been?
The experiences you've gone through, the people you meet, the love of God that you received? Well, in this year, i must say that God has indeed stirred something within us and He has done something in each of of our lives. All of us, we may have gone through tough times, smooth times, shaky times but became mighty in the end. Remember how we were made, dust, to man, to every single little details in us, our individual unique yet similar DNAs, all that sums up to only one feature that we all have and that's a unique feature of God. In the bible, gen 1:26, states we are created in image of God after their likeness. We were made to be like Him, a wonderful conquerer, a victor, a successor. He sent His son into the world to bear the huge amount of sin for us, He, continued to love even though people rejected Him. He, embrace whoever comes to Him and He, is forever, gracious and merciful. He, is a kind-hearted, determined, gentle and good Daddy who loves us so much.

In this year, how have it been? What can we do to love Daddy back? He wants to see us strong, He is sourcing for people who would stand in the gap for Him, He wants to see people who would hold on to Him despite challenges and storms that comes about. Hold, grab the presence of Jesus, catch His flames, follow Him.

Dear brother and sisters, love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul and with all your mind. All of it.

For those people who are having exams, lets pray for good time management so that they can have full preparation. For those who are having tons of assignments/projects, lets pray that God will expand their time. That God will give them the wisdom to do their work and for discipline to keep in pace. Pray for efficiency and proper execution of steps in their work so they do not have to redo their work over again(for NAFA students). Pray for good, effective school mates too=)

How would you describe your spiritual life? Is it marked by steady growth as you walk in fellowship with Jesus and learn from Him each day? Or is it an up-and-down kind of roller-coaster ride with times of intensity followed by seasons of indifference?
Too many people are "religious only by fits and starts," remarked the noted American pastor Jonathan Edwards. Used by God to spearhead a powerful revival in colonial New England, Edwards said churchgoers are "like the waters in the time of a shower of rain, which during the shower, and a little after, run like a brook and flow abundantly, but they are presently quite dry, and when another shower comes, then they will flow again. Whereas a true saint is like a stream from a living spring which, though it may be greatly increased by a shower of rain and diminished in time of drought, yet constantly runs."
If someone were to monitor our lives, would our discipleship be characterized as "fits and starts" or like "a stream from a living spring"? Could we say that we, like Enoch, "walked with God"? (Gen. 5:22).

I just had to write to tell you how much I love you and care for you. Yesterday, I saw you walking and laughing with your friends; I hoped that soon you'd want Me to walk along with you, too. So, I painted you a sunset to close your day and whispered a cool breeze to refresh you. I waited; you never called. I just kept on loving you.

As I watched you fall asleep last night, I wanted so much to touch you. I spilled moonlight onto your face trickling down your cheeks as so many tears have. You didn't even think of me; I wanted so much to comfort you.

The next day I exploded a brilliant sunrise into a glorious morning for you. But you woke up late and rushed off to work-you didn't evennotice.
My sky became cloudy and Mytears were the rain.

The Habit of Keeping a Clear Conscience.

"strive to have a conscience without offense
toward God and men." —Acts 24:16

God’s commands to us are actually given to the
life of His Son in us. Consequently, to our human
nature in which God’s Son has been formed
(see Galatians 4:19 ), His commands are difficult.

But they become divinely easy once we obey.

Conscience is that ability within me that attaches
itself to the highest standard I know, and then
continually reminds me of what that standard
demands that I do.

It is the eye of the soul which looks out either
toward God or toward what we regard as the
highest standard. This explains why conscience
is different in different people.

If I am in the habit of continually holding
God’s standard in front of me, my conscience
will always direct me to God’s perfect law and
indicate what I should do.

The question is, will I obey?

I have to make an effort to keep my
conscience so sensitive that I can live
without any offense toward God and
anyone.

I should be living in such perfect harmony with
God’s Son that the spirit of my mind is being
renewed through every circumstance of life,
and that I may be able to quickly "prove what is
that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
(Romans 12:2 ; also see Ephesians 4:23)

God always instructs us down to the last detail.
Is my ear sensitive enough to hear even
the softest whisper of the Spirit, so that
I know what I should do?

"Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God . . ." (Ephesians 4:30)

He does not speak with a voice like thunder—
His voice is so gentle that it is easy for us to
ignore. And the only thing that keeps our
conscience sensitive to Him is the habit of
being open to God on the inside.

When you begin to debate, stop immediately.
Don’t ask, "Why can’t I do this?"
You are on the wrong track.

There is no debating possible
once your conscience speaks.
Whatever it is— drop it, and see that
you keep your inner vision clear.

Keeper of the Spring

picture guarding your heart as if it
were a fresh spring of water that you
want to drink from daily. The bible tells
us that the heart is "the wellspring of
life",(Proverbs 4:23), the source of our
attitudes, words and deeds. If we fail
to keep our hearts clean, the rest of
our lives will stagnate and become dirty.

Peter Marshall, the former chaplain of
the United States Senate loved to tell
a story called, "The Keeper of the Spring".
This simple tale beautifully illustrates the
importance of constantly maintaining the
purity of our hearts.

An elderly, quiet forest dweller once
lived high above an Austrian village along
the eastern slopes of the Alps. Many years
ago, the town council had hired this old
gentleman as Keeper of the Spring to
maintain the purity of the pools of water
in the mountain crevices. The overflow
from these pools ran down the mountain
side and fed the lovely spring that flowed
through the town.

With faithful, silent regularity, the Keeper
ofthe Spring patrolled the hills, removed
the leaves and branches from the pools,
and wiped away the silt that would other-
wise choke andcontaminate the fresh flow
of water. By and by, the village became a
popular attraction for vacationers. Graceful
swans floated along the crystal-clear spring,
the mill wheels of the various businesses
located near the water turned day and night,
farmlands were naturally irrigated and the
view from the restaurant sparkled.

Years passes. One evening, the town
council met for its semiannual meeting.
As the council members reviewed the budget,
one man's eye caught the salary paid the
obscure Keeper of the Spring. "Who is this
old man?", he asked indignantly. "Why do
we keep paying for him year after year?
No one ever sees him. For all we know,
this man does us no good. He isn't
necessary any longer!" By a unanimous
vote, the council dispensed with the old
man's services.

For several weeks, nothing changed. But
by early autumn, the trees began to shed
their leaves. Small branches snapped off
and fell into the pools, hindering the rushing
flow of sparkling water. One afternoon,
someone noticed a slight yellowish-brown
tint to the water in the spring. A few days
later, the water had darkened even more.

Within a week, a slimy film covered sections
of the water along the banks, and a foul
odour emanated from the spring. The mill
wheels moved slowly; some finally ground
to a halt. Businesses that were located near
the water closed. The swans migrated to
fresher waters far away, and tourists no
longer visited the town. Eventually, the
clammy fingers of disease and sickness
reached deeply into the village.

The shortsighted town council had enjoyed
the beauty of the spring but underestimated
the importance of guarding its source. We
can make the same mistake in our lives. Like
the Keeper of the Spring who maintained the
purity of the water, YOU and I are the Keepers
of Our Hearts. We need to consistently evaluate
the purity of our hearts in prayer, asking God
to reveal the little things that contaminate us.

As God reveals our wrong attitudes, longings,
and desires, we must remove them from our
hearts.

so ask yourselves today,

"what are the pollutants in my
heart that God has revealed?"

compromise, you'll eventually lose.

"compromise is a concession to
something derogatory (disapproving;
unflattering; defamatory; insulting)
where someone concedes(admit defeat)
and they accept what aretold as true,
valid or accurate. they yield(move or
give way when pushed or pressed) to
it." once you start compromising, it is
very difficult to stop.

Jesus calls it "salt losing its
savour"(see Matt 5:13).

once salt loses its savour, it is
"good for nothing, but to be cast out,
and to be trodden under foot of men."

whoa! these are strong words!

science has said that salt is one of
the most stable compounds on earth,
but it can lose its savour in 2 ways:
1) if it is mixed, contaminated, or
diluted with another substance; and 2) if it is
left out and exposed to the elements
of weather, such as rain, snow, and heat.

spiritually speaking, if you allow the
world's way of thinking to cause you
to compromise your convictions in
order to be accepted, you have
become a mixture, or diluted
with anothersubstance, and
you have lost your savour.

or if you give into the
seductions of the world's media,
over a period of time you will lose
your savour as a christian. exposing
yourself to immorality, nudity, sex,
and profanity (unholiness), by watching
the media, will gradually break down
your own reasoning about modesty,
and you'll begin to view things from
a more liberal, worldly, immoral,
ungodly view.

it has been proven that we
eventually accept what we tolerate
and compromise over a period of time.

when a christian lives his/her
life in a mixture, he/she develops
very little discretion. his/her
discernment(wise, good judgment)
becomes clouded and he/she accepts
what others do, whether right or wrong.
so in order not to compromise
and in order to remain the salt of the
earth that Jesus said we're to be, we
have to make decisions daily to submit
to God's written Word and to the Holy
Spirit's conviction.

Jesus' lordship requires us to die
to the lust of the flesh and live
within boundaries so that lust
can no longer have its way. in
this position, we become more
sensitive to God's voice, more
discreet in our actions, and more
discerning of ourselves, of others,
and of situations we face.

i realise living for Christ and
dying to ourselves may sound
extreme-but that's good.
extreme means to go
to the farthest point; to press
oneself to the utmost even if by
great difficulty. it is setting our
will to do whatever it takes to
submit to God's will and not
compromise.

unfortunately, many christians
struggle because they never
press beyond what everyone
around them are doing. they
conform(follow, stick to) to the
crowd and live in apathy
(lack of concern).

extreme christianity is passionate.

true christianity is laying down your
life for Jesus, which requires death
to yourself and being raised to walk
in newness of life(see Rom 6:4). paul
even went on to say in 1 Corinthians
15:31b,"i die daily"(to the world, to
himself, and to the flesh).
that's surrender.

God wants you to take heed to paul's
example and commit to Jesus Christ,
identifying yourself as a christian and
surrendering as well.

YI camp was a blast!
Christmas Bash was a hit! =)
we learnt a lot in Dec 2006.

why was all these for?

to get us ready and geared up for 2007.

we all experienced God in amazing and
more intimate ways in these few months,
mission trip, YI camp and Christmas Bash.

let us not go away forgetting what we've
experienced but begin to put it into action!
Prayer and Praise! Remember! ;)

as we begin to write our new year resolutions,

let's pause, ponder and think back on how
2006 had been, what we had wasted and
what we achieved and want to do even better.

remember the promises we made to God,
when we spoke to God quietly in our hearts,
during one of the night sessions.

hold on to what God promised you and begin
to ask Him to guide and help you achieve what
you've promised Him.

if there were regrets in 2006,
let them not take place in 2007.
let 2007 be a year of no regrets.

i personally had made a pact with God.
and the resolutions that i set, i will not achieve
with my strength but with God's might and power!

have you made your pact with God?
to get your lives right with God in 2007?
to keep the faith at ALL COSTS!

i challenge you to make
your pact with God today!

don't waste another year of opportunities.

it is a year of opportunities in 2007.

- to see your family receive salvation.

wanna say you guys did a great job during
mission trip fundraising for the past 2 weeks!
1 more week to go! ;) keep the momentum
going. God is Jehovah Jireh, the Provider!

when we do out best, He will do the rest.

do you all know that we are about 120 hours
away from mission trip? anyone sending us
off at the airport on wednesday? =)

our flight is at 3.25pm on wednesday. we
will be meeting at the airport at 12pm for
lunch. we can all have lunch together before
flying off.

keep the whole mission trip team in prayer.
especially the leaders, Pastor Daniel, Sister
Wanping, Brother Rixiang and Sister Nana.

pray that God's anointing will be upon them
as they lead the teams in the 3 areas.

pray for spiritual alertness.

pray for courage and submission to leaders.

pray for open doors and grab every opportunity
to share.

pray for safety at all times.

pray for team unity.

pray for strong and healthy bodies.

pray for good rest at night.

pray against spiritual attacks, fear and
discouragement.

why do we pray?
are we scared of the devil attacking us?
the answer is no.

if our life with God is right,
satan can never lay a finger on us.
he can try to scare us but he can never get us.

the bible says very clearly,
"greater is He who is in us, than he who is in
this world."

we pray because, right now,
we are not on defense mode.
we are on ATTACK mode.

we are attacking into the enemy's ex-territory.
yes, though we know that God has won,
we must not be complacent and ya-ya don't pray.

every soldier who goes into battle uses his
best weapons! he goes into battle,
confident that he is a warrior.

so as God's army,
how can we go into battle without using
our best weapon, prayer?

we would be fools not to use our
most powerful weapon!

so pray, prayer warriors!

whether you are in Thailand or in Singapore,
you are part of the mission team,
because we are one body in Christ!

you have a part to pray for us,
cover us with prayers.
we are at the frontline, so PUSH for us! =)

lastly,

i wanna say Godchasers Mission Trippers,
give yourselves a clap, you guys did well
today. but, we can be better.

you've improved in your skits.
remember to keep your focus on God.

constantly be praying,
whether you are acting or not.

let's not aim for our own standards,
but God's standards.
His ways are always higher than our ways.

i pray that we will rely on God moment
by moment. not only when we remember to,
but every second, every breath we take,
we rely on Him.

a story to share,

**Purifier of Silver**

Malachi 3:3 says:
"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a
Bible study and they wondered what
this statement meant about the character
and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the
process of refining silver and get back to
the group at their next Bible Study. That week,
the woman called a silversmith and made an
appointment to watch him at work. She didn't
mention anything about the reason for her
interest beyond her curiosity about the
process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a
piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up.
He explained that in refining silver, one needed
to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where
the flames were hottest as to burn away all the
impurities. The woman thought about God
holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought
again about the verse that says: "He will sit as a
refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the
silversmith if it was true that he had to sit
there in front of the fire the whole time the
silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes; he not only had
to sit there holding the silver, but he had to
keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it
was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment
too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she
asked the silversmith, "How do you know when
the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and
answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my
image in it"

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire,
remember that God has his eye on you and
will keep watching you until He sees His
image in you.

Dear Godchasers,

it's been a while since i wrote an entry.
i've been reading the book of Isaiah for a while.
and i asked God what He wants to say.

He replied, do not fear, my child.

in Isaiah 51:6-8, it says,

"look up to the skies above,
and gaze down on the earth below.
for the skies will disappear like smoke,
and the earth will wear out like a piece
of clothing.

the people of the earth will die like flies,
but My Salvation lasts forever.
My Righteous Rule will never end!

listen to Me,
you who know right from wrong,
you who cherish my law in your hearts.

do not be afraid of people's scorn,
nor fear their insults.

for the moth will devour them as it
devours clothing.

the worm will eat at them as it eats wool.

but My Righteousness will last forever.
My Salvation will continue from
generation to generation."

many times as a christian,
i get mocked at, insulted and shunned
because of my faith.

friends and cousins stopped
talking to me and left me.

because they felt that i was different.
they wanted to look for the old me,
because the old me was like them, very similar.

but they knew that somehow,
the old me was never gonna come back.
so they left me.

last week at the altarcall,
i prayed and wrestled with God for my cousins.
i needed God to show up so badly.

i knew i was gonna meet them on sunday.
i pleaded with God to intervene.

that they will not tell me to shut
up when i speak about God.

the Holy Spirit took over the whole situation.

usually, i would find it so hard to start the topic.
but on sunday, words just flowed out of my lips.
and there was no interruption for 1 hour plus.

usually, i would be cut off halfway and face
some really, really nasty comments, but not
on sunday.

i knew God had showed up. =)

i shared about mission trip and what God
has been doing, in Thailand, in Singapore,
in Godchasers, in my life.

and they listened intently.

they were really open to listening.
i took the opportunity to invite them
on saturday, as well as christmas bash.

they will let me know by tonight,
and i'm still wrestling with God.
they have already agreed to come
for christmas bash!

praise God!
previously, they would never even think,
about stepping into church.

in the past,
they would get so angry at the word, church.
but i did not let fear stop me.

i told myself that i will not let fear,
stop me from inviting them,
stop me from sharing with them.

because i know, one day,
these insults and reproach will stop.
God will cause it to cease.

and their hearts will be open.

we need not fear when people insult
us for our faith because God is with us
and truth will prevail.

if people make fun of us or dislike us
because we believe in God, remember that they
are not against us personally but against God.

God will deal with them,
you should concentrate on
loving and obeying Him. =)

in closing, i want you guys to read Isaiah 50:7.

it says very clearly,

"because the Sovereign Lord helps me,
i will not be disgraced, therefore,
i have set my face like a stone,
determined to do His will.
and i know that i WILL NOT be put to shame."

i will not be ashamed!

Dear Godchasers,

Keep the mission team in prayer.

There was a breakthrough this
afternoon at 2.30pm when they
were allowed into the refugee camp.

The camp consisted of 8000 people.
Praise God for the work He has done
in the refugee camp.

They also had a night rally in the
village last night and 100 people
attended it.

Many received Christ and healings
(signs and wonders) took place,
and many were healed by the power
of the Holy Spirit who used the hands
of our mission trippers.

The team wants to thank us all for
constantly keeping them in prayers,
covering them while they are at the
mission field.

Last but not least,
A few prayer requests :

1) Pray for wisdom upon Bro Rx and
Sis Wp that they will know how to lead
the team, that they will be sensitive to
the Holy Spirit's guidance and leading.

2) Pray that the team will walk in the
Spirit at all times, working hand in
hand with God.

3) Pray for good health for all mission
trippers, especially Bro Rx and Sis Wp
and the leaders, as some of them haven't
been able to eat well since the start of
the trip.

Godchasers, let's PUSH!

The field is tough and we want to cover
our brothers and sisters(mission team)
with prayers because we know that God
will definitely show up when His people
PRAY!

A LETTER TO YOU FROM SATAN

I saw you yesterday as you began your daily
chores.

You awoke without kneeling to pray. As a matter
of fact, you didn't even bless your meals, or pray
before going to bed last night. You are so
unthankful, I like that about you. I cannot tell you
how glad I am that you have not changed your
way of living, Fool, you are mine.

Remember, you and I have been going steady for
years. and I still don't love you yet. As a matter of
fact, I hate you, because I hate God.

I am only using you to get even with God. He
kicked me out of heaven, and I'm going to use
you as long as possible to pay him back.

You see, Fool, GOD LOVES YOU and HE has
great plans in store for you. But you have yielded
your life to me, and I'm going to make your life a
living hell. That way, we'll be together twice. This
will really hurt God. Thanks to you, I'm really
showing Him who's boss in your life with all of the
good times we've had. We have been:

watching sexual movies,

cursing people out,

stealing,

complaining at everything,

lying,

being hypocritical,

fornicating,

using vulgarities,

overeating,

telling dirty jokes,

gossiping,

being judgmental,

backstabbing people,

disrrespecting adults,

and those in leadership positions,

no respect for the Church,

bad attitudes.

SURELY you don't want to give all this up. Come
on, Fool, let's burn together forever. I've got
some hot plans for us. This is just a letter of
appreciation from me to you. I'd like to
say "THANKS" for letting me use you for most of
your foolish life.

You are so gullible, I laugh at you. When you are
tempted to sin, you give in. HA HA HA! You make
me sick. Sin is beginning to take it's toll on your
life. You look 20 years older, and now, I need new
blood. So go ahead and teach some children how
to sin.

All you have to do is... smoke, take drugs, go
clubbing, sleep around, drink or get drunk
while under-aged, cheat, gamble, gossip,
fornicate, and live being as selfish as possible.

Do all of this in the presence of children and they
will do it too. Kids are like that.

Well, Fool, I have to let you go for now. I'll be
back in a couple of seconds to tempt you again. If
you were smart, you would run somewhere,
confess your sins, and live for God with what little
bit of life that you have left. It's not my nature to
warn anyone, but to be your age and still sinning,
it's becoming a bit ridiculous. Don't get me wrong,
I still hate you.

IT'S JUST THAT YOU'D MAKE A BETTER
FOOL FOR GOD.

dear Godchasers,

time for an quick update. =)

lately, we've witnessed real
life heroes and heroines in
Godchasers.

we always think,
"that would never happen to
me, it only happens to others."

but hey, it's reality.
it happened to our cellgroup
members, to one of us in Godchasers.

real life hero 1 :

Baoqi, our 14 year old brother,
was persecuted by his mum and
stopped from coming to church.
He was forced into attending a
foreign church near his place
instead. He called me up and
told me that he was confused
and was extremely fearful of
his mum. I prayed for him and
explained to him that he needs
to make his stand. So i asked
him, "Do you want to continue
to be with us?" He said, "Yes,
i want to be with you all".

So i encouraged him to make his
stand for what he knows is right.
Though he feared his mum and
what entails behind(the beatings)
greatly, he made his stand and
told his mum that he wanted to
come back to be with us. She beat
him and asked if he still insisted
on coming back. He said yes and was
beaten up again. After beating him
up for the second time, she relented
and said, "ok, attend the nearby
church for 2 more weeks, if you
still think it's not suitable for
you, then you may return to the
former church."

I asked what if she changed her
mind and went back on her word.
He said he will still insist on
coming back, "afterall, she had
already beaten me this much, what
more should i not endure?"

that, to me,
was a HUGE encouragement.

real life hero 2 :

Rebecca, our 15 year old sister
and Jiayin, our 14 year old sister.
Both of them were caught in a
difficult situation during a band
practice on a saturday. Usually,
band practice ends at 12pm and they
woukd make their way down to church.
However, it was extended to 4pm that
day. Deep down in their hearts, they
wanted to come to church. But they
were confused and pressured into
staying behind because of the people
around them. Then, Laypeng and Stef,
their disciplers, went to the school to
look for them. They met each other
at the school gate, after praying
together and receiving moral support
and encouragement from their
disciplers, they walked in, got
their bags and left school. It was
a nerve-wrecking and traumatising
experience as they went in to get
their bags.

"It felt like i was walking into a
prison", explained Rebecca. Both
girls walked out in tears as people
crowded around them, giving them
further pressure. Though many might
blame them for their decision, they
knew that they had made a decision
that was right in the eyes of God.
And they had His approval.

real life hero 3 :

Hester, our 21 year old sister.
She had been with us for close to 6
months. During this 6 months, she grew
in God's wisdom and stature. Slowly,
God began to speak to her life. Hester
wanted to live a life pleasing to God.
God had spoken into an area of her life.
She had a non-christian boyfriend. She
knew that it was wrong as God had
specifically told us in 2 Cor 6:14,
" Do not be unequally yoked together
with unbelievers." (NKJV) and in
2 Cor 6:15, " How can a believer be a
partner with an unbeliever?" (NLT).

She knew that God wanted her to put a
stop, a clean break from that ungodly
relationship. After much encouragement
from her discipler, she decided to make
her decision to please God and end that
unwholesome relationship. She came to me
with good news 2 weeks ago. She admitted
that the breakup was much easier than
she expected. After she gave this burden
to God and made her stand for Him,
things became easier that she thought.

Praise God! =)

In our walk with God, we will be tested
to make our stand for Him. Each time, we
decide to make our stand for God, we pass
a chapter of our walk with Him. And our
faith increases by a fold. We are reaching
another level in our relationship with God.

last 2 weeks, we learnt about witnessing
to the world, to our world.

what is a witness?

a witness is someone who speaks
the truth and gives an account of
what he/she had seen and
experienced.

last week :

Kenneth, felt God's prompting to share
the gospel with his classmate's friend,
someone whom he just met a few minutes
ago. He didn't even know this guy.
Despite all fear, he shared with him.
Though that person did not receive Christ,
Kenneth had obeyed the voice of God and
shared. He gave his best shot at witnessing
to this stranger.

Jiayin, Siyin and Daziree had a sudden
urge to do street evangelism on monday
afternoon. They never done this before,
and they smsed me and asked if they
could do it. I guided them with the 5
questions on "share Jesus without fear".
Armed with that 5 questions, newlife
chapter 1 and courage, they obeyed
God and went to the void decks in their
neighbourhood and started scouting
secondary school girls to share the gospel
with. They allowed the leading of the Holy
Spirit to guide their steps. Though the
girls did not receive Christ, it was good
enough in God's eyes.

why?
Because they obeyed God when He spoke.
They shared despite all fear and worries.

success is not determined by the person
receiving Christ, though we would really
want them to receive Jesus into their lives.

success is simply obeying God's voice,
and doing what He tells you.

there's a saying,
"you will obey who you worship".
have you obeyed God today?

I challenge you all to share to 5 persons
this week. Share to them what you've learnt
in church, share how God has changed your
life, share a time when God answered your
prayer, share the gospel, share your personal
testimony, offer to pray for someone who is
sick or is facing problems and INVITE THEM
to church this week. SHARE.

pray for them.
pray like never before.
pray until something happens. =)

2 more powerful testimonies :

Minfang, our 15 year old sister.
She received Jesus into her life about
6weeks ago. Though she feared her
parents who both came from a strong
buddhist background, she knew she
wanted Jesus in her life and accepted
Him as Lord and Saviour. On that very
day when she got home, strangely, her
parents who usually don't question her
whereabouts, came up to her and asked
if she went to church. She was shocked
but answered honestly, "yes".

Straightaway, her parents banned
her from going out, especially not
anywhere near a church. She was upset
but we encouraged her not to give up,
but to cling onto Jesus. We met up
with her for regular disciplship and
her hunger for the Lord caused her to
grow strong in Him. We fasted and prayed
together for a breakthrough. Week after
week, she would ask her parents for
permission to attend church. Slowly,
we could see God working in her parents'
hearts. Finally, her parents gave in
and allowed her attend church.

Our God is awesome yeah!

Dororin, our 15 year old sister.
She had received Jesus into her life a
few weeks ago. She had not told her
parents about it for fear of rejection.
She had been praying that God will soften
her parents' hearts so that they will
accept her becoming a christian. Last
wednesday, after our Nation fast and
prayer service, filled with the Holy
Spirit, she went home and shared the
gospel with her mum and openly shared
that she is now a christian to her family.
And her mum was open to her being a
christian and now she can openly place
her bible and discipleship materials in
her house.

see how God answers our prayers when we
P.U.S.H. pray until something happens.

our God is one who hears and answers.
He is faithful and just and will never
leave us or forsake us.

we are the apple of His eye.

in 1 John 4:16, it says,
"We know how much God loves us,
and we have put our trust in His love.
God is love and all who live in love
live in God, and God lives in them."

and in verse 18, it says,
"Such love has no fear, because
perfect love expels all fear." (NLT)

come on Godchasers!
Let's turn our world inside out!
upside down!

our neighbourhood, our workplace and
our world with the love of God! =)

am i knowing God a bit more
each day?

when we begin to ask God,
cry out to Him and humble
ourselves before Him, laying
down everything at His feet,
He is faithful and just and
will forgive us and help us.

in 1 Peter 5:5-11, it says,

"God opposes the proud,
but favours the humble.

so humble yourselves under
the mighty power of God,
and at the right time, He will
lift you up in honour.

give all your worries and
cares to God, for He cares
about you.

stay alert!
watch out for your enemy,
the devil.

he prowls around like a roaring
lion, looking for someone to
devour(destroy).

stand firm against him, and be
strong in your faith. Remember
that your christian brothers and
sisters all over the world are
going through the same kind
of suffering you are.

in His kindness, God called you
to share in His eternal glory by
means of Christ Jesus.

so after you have suffered a little
while, He will restore, strengthen
and support you, and He will place
you on a firm foundation.

all power to Him forever! Amen!"

full attention during the
meeting and PRAYING!

i could feel the bond of

the bible says

dear Godchasers,

sorry that i've not updated
for a while due to my busy
schedule. my apologies for
that. =]

just an update on something
significant that happened last
week.

i've been praying and asking
God why we didn't see
newcomers for the past few
weeks.

God answered by asking me
not to give up but to perservere.

He promised that we will be
expecting newcomers soon.

but pray, He said, pray until
something happens.

so i obeyed and prayed a lot
more than usual this week. i
prayed at all times about cellgroup,
our members, our friends whom
we want to invite as well as my
walk with God to be strengthened.

i knew something good was
taking place in cellgroup in the
spiritual realm.

i also knew that the devil is not
very happy because we are all
praying very hard for our friends,
ourselves and for cellgroup.

last week some of us faced spiritual
attacks, the devil made some of us
angry with each other, some of us
were intimidated by instructors and
some of us were extremely busy and
tired.

i felt extremely busy and tired, not
wanting to do anything at all, but i
rejected those thoughts immediately
in Jesus' name and prayed and moved
on to complete what i needed to do.

i'm sure most of us were attacked in
one way or another. but i'm glad we all
recognised it and pray against it instead
of reacting towards it.

pastor Daniel shared 2 weeks ago that
many times, instead of partnering with
God, we end up partnering with the devil.

why?

because we were deceived by his lies
and listened to our emotions.

and last week, pastor Daniel shared that
our emotions are unreliable and deceiving.

i know that some of us, along the way,
have made mistakes and partnered with
the devil. but it's alright, what is more
important is that we just need to recognise
where we went wrong, start to walk right
with God and move on.

we try our very best not to make the same
mistakes again. =)

we do not need to fear because we have
already won, God has already fought and
won the battle for us.

the devil only tries to lie to us and tries to
put fear in us. in fact the bible says that,
"greater is He(God) who is in me than
he(devil) who is in the world."

and the bible clearly tells us that,
"if my God is for me, who can be against
me?"

therefore, let's move onwards for Christ.
don't look back, don't dwell on the past.
=)

also wanna welcome our new brother
and sister Christ, Darren and Weiting.

*claps*

Darren renounced his previous buddhist
tailsman last week and we destroyed it
in the name of Jesus in church last saturday.

please pray for him to grow in God and
to be able to attend church regularly, that
he would not be enticed to go out with
other friends on saturdays. =p

Weiting has revealed to me another
piece of good news to me on saturday
too. she said that her parents want to
become christians and attend church.
please pray that they may be able to
come attend saturday night bilingual
this week and that their hearts would
be ready to receive Christ this saturday.
=) pray for her to grow in God too and
be able to attend church regularly every
saturday.

brothers and sisters, with such awesome
stuff happening in Godchasers, we know
that someone by the name of s.a.tan,
out there is not too happy about this and
he may try to attack some of us.

so please, i urge you all, to PUSH, pray
until something happens and don't give
up on inviting your friends. keep praying
for them. =]

GOSPEL OF JUDAS

the gospel of judas is a GNOSTIC GOSPEL.

gnostic gospels:
writings by people who claimed to be
"disciples" or "believers" of Jesus Christ.
these writers also say they had "secret
revelation" from God.

gnostic gospels are BLASPHEMOUS,
untrue, not in line with the early reliable
teachings of Jesus, inconsistent with the
teachings of Jesus' closest disciples or
apostle paul, and not agreeable to the
Divine Nature of Jesus Christ

Gospel of Judas:
- found recently in the desert of Egypt
written in about 300A.D

- about 300 years after Jesus rose and
after judas hung himself.

- unknown writer.

- claims that Jesus told judas to betray
HE HIMSELF so that judas can exceed
the other disciples.

- claims that judas was actually closest
to Jesus, not john the beloved.

- gospel is not the 1st untrue,
blasphemous inaccurate gospel that
was found. other fake gospels include
gospel of mary, of philip and of thomas etc.

why is the gospel of judas
(or any other gnostic gospels) not reliable?

1) they are not written by Jesus' closest
disciples have inconsistency to the
teachings of Jesus Himself, and teachings
of Jesus closest disciples, and apostle paul.

2) writers of these gospels are USUALLY
unknown, or identity of writer is FORGED.

3) these fake gospels do not agree with
the early gospels of matthew, mark, luke
and john about Jesus being God and having
DIVINE characteristics.

4) for gospel of judas, its ORIGINAL text
was written about 200 YEARS after judas
hung himself. so not only was the gospel
of judas not written by judas himself, it was
written by someone who lived 200 years
AFTER judas died. thats 1/5 of a millenium.
imagine someone writing about you after you
had died for 200 years.

5) there are major inconsistencies
within these gospels too.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
The Spirit clearly says that in later times
some will abandon the faith and follow
deceiving spirits and things taught by
demons. Such teachings come through
hypocritical liars, whose consciences
have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 1:3-6
As I urged you when I went into
Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so
that you may command certain men
neither to teach false doctrines any
longer nor to devote themselves to myths
and endless genealogies. These promote
controversies rather than God’s work –
which is by faith.

2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets among
the people, just as there will be false
teachers among you. They will secretly
introduce destructive heresies, even
denying the Sovereign Lord who bought
them, bringing swift destruction upon
themselves. Many will follow their shameful
ways and will bring the truth into disrepute.
In their greed, these teachers will exploit
you with STORIES they have made up.
Their condemnation has long been hanging
over them, and their destruction has not
been sleeping.

Gnostic gospels are not new. As early
as after Jesus rose, the early Christians
have been warned by Jesus’ disciples
about perverse, demonic teachings,
bent on swaying people from the truth.
God shall expose these lies and punish
those who are out rightly blasphemous.

dear Godchasers,

Wanna say you guys did an awesome job
today for cafe duty. Though some of us
were first timers, i felt that it seemed like
we have done cafe duty many times,
don't exactly seem like first timers.

I wanna applaud you guys for being so
hardworking. Really glad to see diligence
and NOT laziness.

I could see that some of us were really
enthusiastic in serving God and serving
others. All of us helped each other, from
keeping tables to clearing the trash to
cooking and even going after someone
who took our food without paying. =)

I know it's tiring, but i'm glad no one
complained and nobody "chao keng"
(take note:that's very bad attitude).
Jesus showed us how He served God
and served others, even his disciples.

That was how humble He was, and He
is the perfect role model for us. =)

We were also one of the fastest team to
wrap up, clean up and finish all the stuff.
Yup, we were efficient! Keep it up!
That's the spirit of excellence.

Lastly, please have a good rest tonight.
Keep your eyes on Jesus! He is waiting
for us at the finishing line, with a big
wide SMILE. ^_^

dear all,

it's been a while since i updated.
just wanna remind you guys,
to fast and pray for ruxiang.

in case some of you don't know,
this is Ruxiang, our strong sister. =)

things to pray :

1) pray for a FULL recovery,
all cancer cells to die.

2) pray for her whole family
to receive Christ.

3) pray for her faith to be
deeply rooted in God.

4) pray for her to be in good
spirits and stay joyful.

5) pray for God to lesses the
pain during treatment.

6) pray against negative thoughts.

hey guys,
please keep to your fast and pray slots.

let's ask God once again
to heal her completely.

our God is the God who does the Impossible!

we are a family in Christ,
we fight the battle together with Ruxiang.
we never walk alone.

on top of this,

there are other things to pray for cellgroup.
here it goes :

1) pray that everyone will
walk faithfully with God.
2) pray that all who are studying
will consistently be revising their
homework and syllabus.

3) pray for an improvement in studies.
4) pray for the newcomers and friends
we wanna invite to church and cellgroup.

5) pray and ask God to show us who to
invite, someone who is in need.
6) pray for Dylan who decided to
quit smoking. Praise GOD! =)

7) pray for Audris to be able to
quicky come back. WE MISS HER!
8) pray for Meiyan's application to
return to school to be successful. =)

9) pray for us to have a breakthrough
in our walk with God, to know and love
Him more each day and grow in Him.
10) pray that we can all be baptised
by june or december 2006.

11) pray that we can all go for mission
trip this year. Missions here we come!
12) pray for Radical Conference in june.

dear all,

it's been a while since i updated. =)

wanna say that the bbq was awesome!
thanks to all of you who helped.
as well as those who turned up.

not forgetting Sandy who lent us her place.
many thanks gal! =)
help me thank your mum too.

thank God the food was sufficient.
He provided lots.
praise God.

really glad to see all of you playing a part.
some were busy setting up the pit.
some were busy cooking.

some of us entertained everyone with games.
some of us were playing music. =)
some of us were busy eating.

we bonded well together though time was short.

we got to eat pinfen's famous chicken wings.
our long awaited marshmellows.
but we didn't get to set daz's hair on fire! =p

heh,
i had an awesome time.
i hope everyone did too. =)

also wanna share something else with you all.

today,
one of the Godchasers SHARED THE GOSPEL,
with her classmate in school during one of the lessons!

marvelous job!
brilliant!
that's living it out!

that's walking the talk!
telling others about the GOOD NEWS!
so that they too can know that God loves them.

though her friend did not accept Christ immediately,
she was interested in coming church this saturday!
that's a start!

you know,
success is not determined if your friends receive Christ,
(though we would want them to know God. =))

BUT success is when we take that first step in faith,
OBEY GOD and tell our friends about Jesus,
and invite them to church.

that is SUCCESS!

because God only wants to see our obedience.
He is the one who decides if our friends are ready,
He is the one who causes the growth.

not us.
we are only God's instruments.
His tools, willing to be used. =)

so impact your school today!
be witnesses of Jesus Christ.
don't keep quiet about the gospel.

never ever commit the sin of silence.

i challenge you all to START TODAY!

the bible says in Luke 1:37,
"For nothing is impossible with God."

and also Philippians 4:13 says,
"For i can do everything through Christ,
who gives me strength."

God promised us all these.
claim it.
live out your lives for Him. =)

last but not least,

continue to fast every monday,
at your specific timeslot for Ruxiang,
she needs our prayers and support now.

she had been healed by God once,
and we wanna believe in God,
to heal her once again!

pray that her family will be open to the gospel.
pray that her spirits will be up.
pray that she will put all her faith and hope in God.

pray that her treatment will not be too tough for her.
pray that her family will receive Christ.
pray against negativity and doubts.

yup.
let's pray for a miracle.
not just for Ruxiang but also for the rest of us.

let go and let God.
God knows what to do with our lives.
no matter how messed up it is.

He knew how to deal with mine in the past.
yours isn't any exception.
He just requires you to trust in Him wholeheartedly.

hello dear Godchasers,

it's been an awesome time the last
few weeks, we've been spending time
bonding, playing basketball, knowing
new friends and evangelising.

you know what?

we are WALKING the TALK!
we are living it out,
living out our FAITH!

we have new members added to our family.

anyway, just some updates,

as you all heard Pastor Daniel share
last week, we are MULTIPLYING to our
second service this week! yay!

therefore, some things to take note,

1. we are meeting at 1.30pm on
saturday in church. please be punctual,
fine system still on. newcomers exempted
for 3 weeks. =) but still, try your best
not to be late.

2. good news! we have a BIGGER venue for
cellgroup this week! you shall find out
whenyou come on saturday! =p

3. invite your friends, classmates,
bandmates, sisters, brothers, cousins,
neighbours, colleagues, schoolmates,
students, and simply ANYONE who don't
know Jesus yet to church this saturday!

4. continue to keep each other in prayer,
especially those who are having tests/exams
now, or soon. =)

5. also pray for the JAE results that are
coming out on 3 march 2006. pray that those
who are awaiting results will get into the
course God intended for them and that they
will also like it or grow to like it. =p

6. we also wanna keep the friends whom we
wanna invite in prayer too. pray that their
hearts would be open towards God. =) pray
that they would be interested to come to
Saturday Nite Life! =p

don't fear or hesitate. just pray,
ask God to help you and invite them. =)

this week is gonna be very exciting as
things are gonna be slightly different.
don't tell you guys what yet. heh. it's
a surprise! shan't let the cat out of the
bag first.

talking about it makes me so excited! but
i'm still not gonna reveal any details yet.

dear Godchasers,

was praying for cellgroup and God
answered in these 2 separate verses
in the bible. Here goes :

" But don't just listen to God's word.
You must do what it says. Otherwise you
are only fooling yourselves. For if you l
isten to the Word and don't obey, it is
like glancing your face in a mirror. You
see yourself, walk away, and forget what
you look like. But if you look carefully
into the perfect law that sets you free,
and if you do what it says and don't forget
what you heard, then God will bless you for
doing it. "

- James 1:22-25(NLT)

I believe that God is going to transform
our lives through these 40 days of purpose
driven life, so i urge you all to read a
chapter of the book daily diligently, and
understand what God tries to tell you,
through the book, about the different
areas of your lives.

Don't read the book just for the sake of
reading, read it with conviction, asking
God to reveal His secrets to you. =)

And when you feel you lack wisdom in
inviting friends, or even talking to them
about Christ, ask God for wisdom because
He promised us that if we ask Him, we shall
receive. Claim His promise.

" If you need wisdom, ask our generous God,
and He will give it to you. He will not
rebuke(scold) you for asking. But when you
ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God
alone. Do not waver, for a person with
divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave
of the sea that is blown and tossed by the
wind. "

- James 1:5-8(NLT)

Therefore, be doers, not just hearers of
His Word. And ask our GENEROUS GOD for
wisdom, and He will give it to us. =)

just wanna say i love you all! =)

let's give thanks to God
for the friends He brought us,
who received Him as Lord and Saviour.

God is good all the time,
all the time God is good.

in the next 40 days,
we are embarking on a journey with God,
to find out our purpose in life for Him.

why we were created?
what we were made for?
how can we fulfill our purpose in life?

invite friends, family members, relatives,
neighbours, classmates, colleagues and
ANYONE we come into contact with,

who don't know Jesus Christ,
never heard the good news,
and don't know the purpose of their lives,

invite them all to church. =)

don't fear.
don't hesistate.
just pray and ask God for wisdom

and invite them.

because it is not us that causes
the results/outcomes,

but it is God who causes it,

we are merely the instruments
and tools God uses.

basketball was awesome yesterday.
though we were quite unprofessional
and our game was peppered with
"ahs" and screams,

we had fun and that's the most important.

really had a good time bonding together.
could feel God's love among us,
uniting us together as a cellgroup. =)

praise God.

God also opened doors for us yesterday.
we got to know 2 new boys, Max and Ben.
invited them to church on saturday.

please keep them in prayer.

pray that :

they will not face obstacles in coming.
they will feel comfortable with us.
that they will experience God this saturday.

another testimony i wanna share is,
kenneth faced opposition from his parents,
when he told them he was a christian.

but after receiving this news yesterday,
immediately, we prayed for him and,
God caused the whole situation to change.

after spending time talking to his parents,
they allowed him to believe in what he wants,
now he does not face opposition anymore! =)

God is indeed awesome.
all glory goes back to God.
He deserves all the credit.

we are also happy children. =p

last but not least,

to read a chapter of the book daily.
check on them to see they are consistent.

Wanna say you guys did a good job
yesterday during cafe duty. Everyone
worked quickly and we were able to
finish all the cleaning, pack up and
leave early. =)

Give yourselves a good pat and aim

We are visiting Joey and Cynthia's house
this saturday. Our meeting place is Bukit

diligent to read 1 chapter daily.

Pray for Joey and Cynthia as they are taking
a test on friday. It is an admission test from
BukitView Pri Sch. Pray that God will give
them wisdom to do the paper.

Pray for Nicholas, a newfound friend of

to attend church this week.

Pray that Yuling, Tammy, Jason and Edison,
that they can attend church soon.

Pray for cellgroup growth.
Pray that God will cause us to have success,
